Meat Centre

The meat centre one of the eight remaining butchers located on the first aisle in stall number sixteen run by Kenneth Barrett in the English market.
The stall, over the years has become a very integral part of the fabric of the area being surrounded by various spice shops and coffee shops, tasty wine premises and most of all a happy and welcoming atmosphere.

It was established in 1980 by Ken, who has a very big customer base from the little old lady to the big restaurants as well as supplying the local Chinese restaurants and many other ethnic groups amongst which is the Polish community which in recent years has added to his business. The meat centre is better known as Ken's. His customers are always welcomed with a smile and a constant stream of jokes and funny stories. Coming from a farming background it was inevitable that one day the wheel would go around full circle and today he is breeding the best animals - cattle, sheep and pig's on the rich farm lands of the North Cork area to the dining room table of many a Corkonion.

Being rewarded in recent years with a Bridgestone good food guide entry for the top quality of his meats. His presentation is one of the main aspect of his determination in giving good value and top quality itself. From bodice to sheep tongues, and fresh pickled pigs heads this is all at the meat centre plus many and much more and varied tasty temptations. The friendly staff- Helen and Agniezska look after all the customers from far and wide, near and not so near. Ken's is aIway's worth a visit you might never know what is on his meat menu and joke menu, well both of which are worth the visit. If ken were not a butcher he would certainly be on a stage telling jokes. Cork is lucky to have him because he is one of the best known characters of the English market. Pay him a visit at his stage stall number sixteen, aisle one.
